We began exploring the world of precision ag in the later part of 2000 and 2001 to use on our own home farm. Initially, we accessed and used satellite imagery to guide us in our NH3 variable rate applications. After hearing Gary Wagner (a long time precision ag practitioner and advocate) speak at a meeting in Fargo, we started to seriously consider forming a company to provide precision ag services.
A year later, four farmers purchased a Veris machine which reads and geo-references soil conductivity. We also purchased software that would enable making the application maps and spent considerable time in Oklahoma completing training in its proper use. The training gave Paul and Kim the skills to process the data taken in the field, compile it and then utilize it to produce fertilizer application maps for growers. Two years after the initial idea of forming a company, Precision Ag Results was incorporated with five farmer owners.
Since the inception in 2002, the company has progressed though the precision ag learning curve and developed practices that work well with zone management for our area of central ND. In the fall of 2003 we began doing our own zone soil testing that allows us to verify the accuracy (ground truthing) of zone maps before the application maps are created. In 2009, we began the process of incorporating RTK elevation information when doing zone analytics. The hardware services we offer our customers has steadily expanded with the addition of various vendors including Precision Planting in the summer of 2015.
The business has steadily grown and today works with growers from over 10 counties surrounding Maddock which has spurred our staff to expand to 6 full time and 3 part time employees. The recent move to the former Summers Mfg. facility has been a very positive step as it gives us expanded office facilities and ample shop space.
